Something's going on at The Los Angeles Times. On New Year's Day, the paper ran not one, but two articles questioning America's therapeutic culture and addiction to the latest psychological or psychiatric fads. When a major American newspaper publishes two articles in one issue making this essential point, we ought to take notice. . . .Read the whole thing to find out how the therapeutic world view can sometimes conflict with the Christian world view.

Albert Mohler's article resonated with my concern for "seeker sensivive church services" so common today as contrasted to "the truth of the gospel" that exposes sin and brings conviction.
When I was young, I understood that I was a lost soul, a sinner in need of a Savior. That teaching from the pulpit on Sundays was repeated in strong doses in revival meetings. It was also reinforced by my mother's discipline for bad behavior, which was often. I knew I was a sinner I thought I would drop into hell if I died. I suppose in today's popular understanding I would be classified as emotionally scarred and put by some therapist into one of the 365 "mental disorders." I certainily did not feel good about myself, I did poorly in school and knew I was bound for hell. Fortunately, for me there was a medine in those days for the sin-sick soul--it was called repentance. When I called out in my distress to Christ for forgiveness, Christ heard and gave me the self esteem I did not have before. I became a Child of the King! WOW I began to do better in school and life took a decided turn for the better in every way. That was more than 60 years ago. I wonder how many persons in this generation would know a joy that has escaped them if they saw themselves as the sinners in God's sight, repented, experienced forgiveness and gained the self esteem of being a Child of the King?
